#TOON CHADER VCHAT SKIN#
Id have to make a 100% custom texture for that skin in order to even have a chance to use it and that can take several hours, if not days, to do properly. It's near impossible to find 2 realistic textures that "fit" together and attempting to make them fit yourself is simply one damned big pain in the ass that's just not worth the time to do. And there are ZERO heads that come even close to looked right on it texture wise. In Blender it looks decent enough on it's own, in Unity or in game though it goes to hell for a few reasons even when not compressed at all. I got a male base model Id like to use, but simply can't due to how it's textures are worthless from being too detailed. Little to nothing else "fits" with those textures often needing the entire thing reworked. It also makes for easier times changing a few like nails or hair or even fine details like shadows, joints, or scars.Ī more realistic skin texture is simply hard as balls to work with. You can often take almost any head and put it on most bodies that have toon like skin with little effort needed to blend seams.

This is not ready for professional development.Toon skin being more flat or uniform in color makes it easier to work with and mix/match assets. IMO, this is a toy for people who want to play with anime characters and have that style. Its positioning seems based on a second underlining 3D model that is pushed (Expanded) to fill the model rather than just drawing around the contours. The main issue isn't even the color system but the outline. I have a feeling the Vroid model's geometry is built in a very specific way that can take advantage of the plug-in whereas another model cannot without heavy tweaking. I work with fairly high poly models and this doesn't translate the colors as well as it does with a Vroid 3D Model.

You are stuck with only 3 shades and have extremely limited control over them plus there is no adjustment for smoothing the colors, you are stuck with a hard edge all the time. The anti-aliasing on the outline is very poor.Ĭolor divisions and color control are extremely limited. I should have known it wouldn't be that great by the scale of the images online and the heavy use of traditional anime-only characters. The output quality is really poor compared to Vray's Toon shader out the box without normal adjustment. If you're looking for a Guilty Gear XRD type shader this is "NOT" for you.īottom line if you are happy with a traditional anime-only style of character using this color system, then this is your tool. *I'll be mostly using it for games and sometimes in animation or film.
#TOON CHADER VCHAT UPDATE#
*It gets better and better in every update and fixes all previous errors/issues. *RealToon URP and HDRP supports Unity Ambient Occlusion and RealToon URP supports unity decal. *DOTS and Hybrid Renderer are supported (URP and HDRP).

*The support is also great, fast responds and helpful. The shader can be use on applications and games that allow custom shaders, like VRChat.

The HDRP Version is amazing, all are possible and accurate, in my experience of using it, it also supports DXR/Ray Tracing which is really amazing. The RealToon URP and HDRP version has a "On Shader Screen Space Oultine" for a much detailed and better/fast outline. Realistic environments/backgrounds plus this shader is really possible and blends beautifully. I can use this shader together with unity shaders (From Built-In standard shaders, URP shaders to HDRP shaders) and other shaders i have too. The "Reduce Shadow" feature is unique, it does really reduce those unwanted realtime shadow artifacts without affecting other objects, i use it on character's face. There are a lot of options to tweak to achieve different style or stylized (More than anime or toon looks). The objects or characters with this shader are not overexposed when there are a lot of lights in the scene, which is really great. The light blending is amazing, it is similar to the real anime or toon and it also supports all unity lights.
